A dark alley in Kaunakakai

I'm up about 7:15, after a good sleep & lovely ocean breezes. Check a few e-mails, get the coffee going & KK's coke in the freezer. I'll start the "Mike's dish" and use Portuguese sausage for the meat, making it a little more Hawaiian. Just as I get the potatoes on, I give the Wallis's a call & report that I got a call about our hike tomorrow..$35 each & meet at a church in Halawa at 10:00. He got a call too, and it was 10:30, but at least we're on for the Valley hike. The dish is finished, and I make some toast, and here come Steve & Marlene. This will be a good staple for the day's activities, so out on the patio for the feast! And our resident turkeys stroll by, along with the local birds, but an enjoyable morning in paradise. Now that we're fortified, off we go to explore our beach area & up to a bluff where there appears to be an old WWII observation bunker. Yes, that's what it is & a great view of the ocean & huge crashing waves onto the rocks below, but rising up to 40-50' high! We see a few "blows" out in the channel-humpback whale spouts- but not much activity. Back down to the beach (Kepuhi) to watch the massive waves, relax, get some sun & read a little. The surf is so big that the locals won't even go in! Up to the condo to clean up, watch the sunset-with some champagne & olives & then to town to look for a supper spot. We decide on the Kamuela's Cookhouse, a local favorite, in Hoolehua. It turns out to be so-so, but nothing special. Steve took some wine, so it wasn't too expensive..ribs, mahi-mahi, ahi. Now down to the big town and some late night treats! Park in front of the Molokai Bakery & go around the back, into a dark alley & order some donuts & bread from a guy at a window! Smells great! A little gas at $5 & up the hill to our condos. A close encounter with a couple of herds of deer along the way. We'll need to leave for our hike about 7:45 tomorrow, so get our stuff ready before bedtime. See ya then!
