Murphey's Beach

It's our final full day on Moloka'i & we want to go back to MM 20-Murphey's Beach-and snorkel at high tide. Today, that's about 1:00, so we have breakie, load up the van and head to town to get snacks, mail a few items & head east for the beach. It's about 40 miles total and we get there about 11:30 & the water looks great! KK suits up & heads out while the ocean is high. Steve gets in pretty quick too & off he goes! KK stays out for quite a while & sees lots of fish & now it's my turn to search the reefs. Of course, there's more idiots standing on the reefs, having no clue they're not supposed to be there. HEY!! GET OFF THE CORAL! A little more room to move around today & lovely fish. I'm out about an hour, but back to the beach to warm up & have some snacks & a cold Longboard Lager. Pretty nice spot here, but not much whale action today & the locals are starting to come out for their weekend parties. OK, pack up and head to town to turn in our gear, get some Mahi-Mahi for dinner & check out the Hotel Moloka'i & their rooms for future consideration. And there's a party going on here too! Hawaiian music in the bar & the parking lot is full. At first we try the lookout road to a rain forest area, but it's a 17 mile drive on a dirt road & you have to have 4-wheel drive, so back to the Hotel & some drinks & music. We also see some whales breaching, a couple of flying fish & a beautiful evening. Now let's see the Pacific sunset again..this time up to Maunaloa Town & a nice bluff overlooking the ORANGE sun oozing slowly through the clouds & into the Pacific Ocean..WHAT A SIGHT! Now it's time for dinner, so back down the hill to the Ke Nani Kai, the roaring surf & our grilled mahi. We bought the fish & Steve & Marlene did the cookin'..THANKS! What an end to a prefect day in Paradise. Now we all have to pack our stuff for tomorrow's trips-The Wallis's head home to Victorville & we are going to the Big Island. They leave at 11:45 & ours is at 3:00, but maybe we can get out to the airport & go earlier. It's been a fun time on Moloka'i! See you in Kona!
